What is the white dwarf?
A white dwarf star is a small and very dense star that is the size of a planet. A white dwarf is what a star will become (such as the sun) after all of their nuclear fuel is gone. If a person were to take a spoon full of a white dwarf it would weigh as much as a car.

How is it formed?
The planetary nebula is formed when the red giant stars get rid of their out layers as clouds of gas. Gravity forces the core which is almost pure helium to shrink and compress and become even hotter than before. Due to the high temperature in the red giant will eventually ignite helium ashes. The ashes will fuse together to make the planetary nebula.
